MacWhisper is very good at what it is built for: turning audio files into transcripts. If what you actually want is to talk and have the words appear in the app you are already in, that is a different tool. Aria does that, plus file transcription, for €5 once instead of €64.

The question that decides it
Ask what you did last week. If you dropped four recordings into an app and cleaned up the transcripts, MacWhisper is built for exactly that and €64 for a lifetime licence is a fair price. If instead you typed the same long email for the fifth time and thought "I could have said this out loud", you want a dictation shortcut — and that is a different app.
Aria covers both, with the emphasis reversed: dictation first, files second. For a lot of people the file work is occasional and the dictation is daily.
What Aria adds for daily dictation
- Faithful by default. Capitals and full stops are restored locally; nothing is summarised, translated or restyled unless you pick that mode.
- Language preserved. Speak English, get English — no quiet translation.
- A dictionary that learns. Aria notices the words you fixed and stops getting them wrong.
- Recoverable text. If the target app refuses the insertion, the transcript is still in your history rather than gone.
- Offline by default. With the local engine, no audio and no transcript leaves the Mac.
Where MacWhisper is the better buy. Long files, batches of them, subtitle work, and a mature notarised app with years of polish behind it. It also has a free version that is genuinely useful. If audio files are the job, buy MacWhisper and do not think about it again.
